LQ VS MS Match Preview
Having won seven matches in the league stage of a PSL edition, Lahore Qalandars are optimistic going into the playoffs. Their status as defending champions only helps them grow. With Qalandars being the first to secure a playoff spot, they will have the home advantage in the final.
In their triumphant campaign last year, Fakhar Zaman led the way with the bat. Since joining the playing XI midway through the tournament, Abdullah Shafique (193 at 144.02) has made some impressive contributions. In the middle order, Sikandar Raza (198 runs at 188.57) and Sam Billings (179 runs at 146.72) have contributed.
Qalandars achieved their biggest win ever in the PSL with a 119-run win over Islamabad United. With Shaheen Afridi’s speed attack of Zaman Khan (12 wickets at 22.08) and Haris Rauf (14 wickets at 23.07), the pace attack can stifle both powerplay and death over scoring options. Rashid Khan’s cunning spin keeps batters guessing in the middle overs, as he has taken 15 wickets at an average of only 13.
Multan Sultans dominated PSL 8 in the first half with dominant performances at home. Although their home ground has seen more losses than wins since moving away, Mohammad Rizwan’s team takes heart from their recent performance. It was their batting that successfully chased down the highest run-chase in PSL and the joint-second highest in T20 cricket, and they also recorded the highest PSL team total of 262, which secured the second position.
Rizwan led Multan’s batting with 483 runs at 145.04 and Rossouw topped the list with 388 runs at 176.36. Right-handed opener Usman Khan scored the fastest century in the tournament’s history in his last group match, crossing the 100-run barrier in 36 balls and laying the foundation for his team to score 262.
