Asus ZenBook 14X Space Edition Review

Asus ZenBook 14X Space Edition Review: Conquering the Star

At a time when the design of laptops tends to become standardized, a touch of originality is welcome to stand out and display its difference. Asus has understood this and is launching a limited series of its Zenbook 14X Called Space Edition. The laptop pays homage to the first Asus computer sent into space during an expedition to the MIR station. 25 years separate this event and the release of the ZenBook 14X Space Edition. An ultrabook that no longer has much to do with its ancestor except being a laptop.

Special series requires, the Zenbook 14X Space Edition sports a unique design. This translates into a gray color embellished with serigraphs evoking the space universe, both on the outer frame and on the wrist rests. Asus has also equipped its ultrabook with ZenVision, a small 3.65-inch OLED screen integrated into the back of the panel.

Visible to all, its display is customizable. Symbols, texts, all associated or not with scrolling effects, it’s up to you to choose according to your desires of the moment. Asus has also taken care of its packaging. This starts with the cardboard box for transport, then a few goodies, not to mention an aluminum-colored protective bag that is reminiscent of the astronaut suit.

Display: To infinity and beyond

But to sum up this Zenbook Space Edition to its look would be a mistake. Asus has also selected the best components of the moment for its ultrabook. The display is entrusted to a 2.8K OLED touch panel. In other words, enough to enjoy one of the best displays of the moment available on a laptop.

Precise colorimetry, infinite contrast with deep blacks without forgetting display precision thanks to the definition of 2880×1800 pixels. Other features include a 90Hz refresh rate for everyday smoothness and a peak brightness of 370 nits for comfortable use in most environments.

Because, with its featherweight of 1.5 kg, the Zenbook Space Edition is ready to follow you every day in all your travels. The only downside, its average autonomy barely exceeds 6 hours in light use (web browsing, active WiFi, brightness at 140 cd / m2).

The explanation lies in the presence of a more energy-consuming 90 Hz screen (it is possible to grab a good hour of additional battery life by forcing the rate to 60 Hz via the Windows display settings) but also and above all because of the integration of an Intel Core i7-12700H (or Core i9-12900H) Octo-Core processor from the H series. 13-14 inches.

A plus for photographers, videographers, and other creatives looking for a compact yet powerful laptop. Performance is also presented at the storage level with the integration of SSD to the PCIe 4.0 standard in order to take advantage of speeds flirting with 7000 MB/s in reading!

As you will have understood, Asus has chosen among the best components of the moment to equip its Zenbook 14X Space Edition. But a computer cannot be reduced to a technical sheet, however attractive it may be. The design and robustness of the chassis also play an important role, as does the keyboard, which must be comfortable. After a few days spent in his company, nothing to complain about on all these points.

As a bonus, the Zenbook Space Edition can boast of offering a pleasant audio system for a Windows ultrabook. Its large touchpad with the bonus of displaying a virtual numeric keypad is another of its strengths, as is its complete connectivity (Thunderbolt 4, USB-C, HDMI, micro-SD reader, etc.) and its infrared camera compatible with Windows Hello facial recognition.

Zenbook 14X Space Edition Price

Is the Zenbook 14X Space Edition close to perfection? Almost, at least, if you are ready to deal with an average autonomy and a price for the least expensive with an entry ticket of 2000€. The price of the exclusivity of a limited tribute series, no doubt.
